VICTIMIZATION BY RACE/ETHNICITY

  • Approximately 805,513 African-Americans experienced violent victimization during 2002, at a rate of 28 per 1,000, higher than any other racial group.100
  • In 2002, approximately 637,000 Hispanics were victims of violent crime.101
  • The percentage of African-America men (48 percent) and women (62 percent) who reported their violent victimization to the police is higher than for any other racial/ethnic group.102
